Q. What is the screening process you undertake on your nannies and babysitters?
A. All of our nannies and babysitters have been interviewed by one of our consultants via face to face, or via Skype/FaceTime. Candidates will hold a current and approved Criminal Conviction Report (CCR) and either a valid Working With Children Check (WWC) or Blue Card, and a current First Aid Certificate (Unit Standard HLTAID003). They will have relevant child related experience and/or childcare qualifications, and we conduct a minimum of two child-related reference checks. We pride ourselves in providing our families with the highest calibre of professional nannies and babysitters.
Q. Do I get a refund if you can’t find a babysitter?
A. If Rockmybaby® is unable to fill your babysitting booking, we will credit forward your booking fee, or we can refund the booking fee on request. Once confirmation of a babysitter is made, the booking fee is non-refundable. Also view our Terms & Conditions page in regards to refunds.
Q. Does it cost anything to register a nanny request on the website?
A. No, there are no upfront fees for registering your nanny request. Our placement fees are applicable when employment is offered to one of our nannies. Please view our fees page for our placement fees.
Q. How long can the nanny placement process take?
A. Each nanny request is unique according to your location and nanny availability. Once your nanny job request has been received, it will be posted on our nanny jobs board and emailed out to our entire network of approved nannies. We then forward any resumes of nannies that we consider a good fit and would like to be considered for your position. This process can take anywhere between 1 - 2 days or a few weeks.
Q. What insurance will I need?
A. All families that employ a nanny will need to have Domestic Workers Compensation Insurance NSW QLD VIC WA TAS SA (consult your Insurance Broker). You may wish to ensure your nanny holds her own insurance through Nanny Sure or Altiora to cover you in situations outside of your home and property.
Q. What are our obligations and responsibilities as an employer?
A. All families that employ a nanny have to comply with the ATO regulations in regard to employees. You will need to:
- Register for PAYG Withholding
- Register your employees Tax File Number with the ATO
- Deduct PAYG Withholding and add 9.25% superannuation. NB: Superannuation is an obligation when a nanny works more than 30 hours per week
As the contract of employment is between a family and the nanny, we act as a facilitator to ensure both parties are happy and that the best outcome is arrived at. You can also view our client obligations on our Terms & Conditions page.
Q. What is registered childcare?
A. Registered childcare is that provided by grandparents or other relatives, friends, or nannies, who are registered as carers with the Australian Government’s Department of Human Services. You and your partner need to be working or looking for work, training, or studying to get registered care. There are some exemptions. Please view the information fact sheet to find out about registered care.
Q. What additional housekeeping duties can we ask the nanny to do?
A. Normally nannies are expected to keep all children’s rooms and living areas clean and tidy, help with children’s laundry, changing bed linens, and help with preparation of children meals. We suggest you discuss with the nanny what extra duties you expect the nanny to perform at the time of the interview. It is important that you have clearly outlined what duties are required and expected of the position, and to confirm if the nanny is happy to include these in her contract.
Q. How long will it take before a babysitter accepts my booking request?
A. Once you pay the booking fee via credit card, your booking is then released out to our babysitters in the specified region. In most cases, babysitting bookings can be accepted within minutes or hours. If a booking is not accepted within a few days, we will re-release this out for you. If your babysitting booking is several weeks away, we follow the same process of re-releasing your booking. While we do everything we can to ensure each booking is filled, we cannot guarantee that all bookings will be. Please call if you have any concerns or questions.Q. Can I meet the babysitter beforehand?
A. If you request this as part of your booking, please state this under the “special requests” section when submitting the booking. Alternatively, you can request that the sitter arrive half an hour earlier than required to allow for introductions. A booking must be a minimum of three hours duration.Q. Can I request a specific babysitter?
A. Yes, you can request a specific babysitter. In order to do so, you would need to email through your request to your regional office or include the babysitters name in the “special requests” section when making a booking. We would then inform the babysitter that you have requested them. However, if the babysitter is unavailable, we would inform you, and release the booking to other babysitters.Q. A. Yes, some of our babysitters/nannies can do overnight stays. There are a limited number available for this service however, so it would be subject to babysitter/nanny availability. How many children can one babysitter care for during a booking?
A. For safety reasons we recommend a 1:4 babysitter: child ratio. This will depend on the needs and ages of the children, and if a parent is onsite. You can talk with one of our consultants to discuss your needs and we can help with ensuring you have all the babysitting cover you require.Q. How do I pay the babysitter candidate?
A. You pay the babysitter the current regional rate per hour (depending on your location), in cash, directly to the babysitter on completion of the booking. Babysitters are responsible for paying their own tax in their declaration of earnings. For current regional babysitting rates, refer to www.rockmybaby.com.au/pages/feesQ. A. Our babysitters have a variety of qualifications ranging from formal childcare or nanny qualifications, to life experience as mothers, grandmothers and experience caring for siblings/family. All babysitters must have a minimum of one year’s previous experience working with children. If you require a babysitter with a certain qualification such as maternity nursing, please state this in your booking. All babysitters either hold a current First Aid certificate or are in the process of obtaining one. All babysitters also have an approved and current Criminal Conviction Report (CCR), Working with Children Check (WWC), or Blue Card.Q. Can the babysitter transport my child to and from activities?
A. If you require your child to be transported, you will need to consider the organisation of car seats (if required). This can be listed in the special requests section.
