So long as you are 18 years or older, have a minimum of one years’ experience caring for children, and are committed and passionate about providing quality care for children you can be a nanny or babysitter with Rockmybaby®. You could be a mother, grandmother, health practitioner, be a qualified teacher/nanny/childcare, or simply have experience caring for children.
Q. What do I need to complete in order to pick up babysitting bookings or apply for nanny roles with Rockmybaby®
A. You will need to register online and complete our recruitment process in order to be approved to receive babysitting booking alerts and/or to apply for nanny roles or be introduced to clients. The Rockmybaby® recruitment process involves an interview via Skype/FaceTime/face-to-face, reference checks, Candidate Application form, and that you supply: two forms of identification, an approved National Crime Check; a current valid Working With Children Check/Blue Card; current child-related Curriculum Vitae; child-related qualifications (if applicable); and a current First Aid Certificate (Unit Standard HLTAID003).
Q. Can I register in more than one area at a time?
A. No – once you register in a specific area and input your contact details, you will receive notifications of nanny jobs and babysitting bookings in that area. If you move towns, or state, you can simply edit your contact details in order to receive notifications for your new location. We also ask that if you move to a new house within your current region, please amend this on the website, so your details are always up to date.
Q. What happens if I move cities or towns?
A. If you move to a new region within Australia, you can simply edit your contact details to reflect this, and you will then receive notifications for your new location. Please make sure that you also email or call through to the area office that you are moving to, introduce yourself, and request your registration details to be transferred.
Q. What do I do after I accept a babysitting booking?
A. After accepting a babysitting booking online, you are expected to contact the client within 24 hours to introduce yourself. This is an opportunity to ask them about their children, confirm their address and times of the booking, as well as put them at ease. If a client wants to meet with you beforehand, depending on how far in advance a booking is placed, this is also possible. If you do meet, for security reasons, please ensure you arrange to meet in a public place and inform a family member/friend of your intentions. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable on arrival to a babysitting booking, please don’t hesitate to call us - always have the Rockmybaby® 1800 number on hand. Q What screening do the Rockmybaby® Clients/Families undertake?
A. We do not screen our clients. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable prior to meeting the family in person, or on arrival to a babysitting booking – please ensure you follow our safety guidelines as outlined in our Terms & Conditions.
Q. Why do I need a full driver’s licence?
A. One of our policies is for all nannies and babysitters to have a full driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle. This is to ensure that you can transport the children in case of an emergency and that you can safely return home at the end of a babysitting or nanny job.
Q. What age do I have to be to be able to join your agency?
A. We accept nannies/babysitters from the age of 18 years, with a minimum of one years’ experience nannying or babysitting.

Q. What should I include in my child-related CV?
A. Please include a personal statement outlining your key attributes and qualities, as well as a brief personal philosophy of care, and the nature of role you are looking for. List the duration of all child-related roles, ages of children you cared for, and the basic duties involved. A family appropriate picture is also a nice touch. Be mindful of the presentation of your CV, and make sure there are no spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, and that it looks professional. Your CV is your advertising tool to the family, the client selects which applicants they want to meet based on the information in, and presentation of your CV, so it is important that you represent yourself in the best possible way.
Q. Why do I have to fill in the Candidate Application form?
A. Once you register online with Rockmybaby® you will be emailed through our Candidate Application Form. This form requires information such as medical history, education, and other general information that we require. You will also need to provide email and phone contact details for a minimum of two child-related referees for us to follow up from reference purposes. Please sign and return the form via email to your regional office, along with the other recruitment documents required.
Q. Am I able to set my hourly rate for babysitting?
A. Rockmybaby® babysitting rates are fixed and are region dependent. Regional rates are listed on the website fees page. Please view our fees page for clarification. Under no circumstances are you to set your own rate or ask for additional fees outside of prices advertised on the website. Nanny rates are either listed on the job notes on our website or are negotiable between you and the family based on nanny experience and/or education.

A. If you are required to use your own personal car during your babysitting placement to transport the children, then you can charge a mileage cost. We recommend at charge of 0.68c per km, please ensure you keep a correct record of distance travelled. Please note that this does not include the travel costs involved in getting you to and from a job. Any money offered for travel to and from a babysitting job would be listed in the job advertisement. This is typically only the case when the booking is for a rural or remote location.
Q. How is payment made for babysitting?
A. Payment is typically made directly to you in cash at the end of the booking - in some cases the client may be invoiced for the full amount and we on-pay you. This may happen if it is a hotel or VIP client booking, in which case you would be informed of this prior to commencing the booking. You will need to provide your regional office with a confirmation of hours worked, a Tax File Number Declaration Form (available from any Australia Post Office) and your bank account details.
Q. What is the job summary form for?
A. This is for your own personal use. Please take this form along with you to the babysitting booking. If possible, you can fill out most of the booking details before you arrive at a job. There is section on the form if the family require you to administer medication to a child/ren. Please make sure that you take the form with you when you leave – it is for you to keep for your records, Rockmybaby® does not need to be provided with a copy.
Q. What should I do if a family asks if I am available to babysit for them again?
A. Under no circumstances are you to accept private booking requests form Rockmybaby® clients. If a client requests you again, that is not a problem, simply inform the client to email their request through to the regional office - we can then assign the booking directly to you. Alternately, the client can include your name in the special requests section within the booking. If we find that you have accepted private bookings with clients, we will suspend your registration with Rockmybaby® and you will no longer be able to pick up bookings with us. We have strict processes in place for your safety.
Q. How do I apply for a nanny job?
A. Please follow instructions on the nanny job page. Click apply, this will open your email account up, if you use Hotmail or Yahoo, you will need to manually email through along with the correct Job ID number. Please ensure that you have the relevant office email. Attach your CV each time you apply for a nanny job, make sure your CV does not have any personal contact information i.e., take out mobile phone, home phone numbers, street number, date/month of your birth date. This is for safety and security reasons – as we forward your CV onto Clients.
Q. Should I get nanny insurance?
A. Yes – we strongly recommend that all nannies take out Public Liability insurance, please contact your area office and they will let you know what type of insurance you should carry.
Q. Who pays for my tax and super?
A. In most cases Rockmybaby® does not employ you. For permanent placements, the client/families will employ you and are responsible for your taxation and superannuation obligations. If you are self-employed and contract yourself directly to the family – you would then be responsible for your own tax obligations and you would have your own ABN number. It is your responsibility to check that you are operating within the law with regards to taxation and superannuation.
Q. How do I get SMS texts?
A. Once you are approved, we will credit your account with 50 free SMS text credits. If you want to purchase additional SMS text credits, or top up your account at any time, simply email the relevant regional office and you will be provided with bank account details to which you can make a deposit. The equivalent credits will then be credited to your account. Rockmybaby® will give 50 free SMS text credits to babysitters if a client offers positive feedback about you from a babysitting booking. If a client is complementary about you when you finish a booking, please prompt them to log back onto the Rockmybaby® website and place their feedback.
